Chancie L. Blizzard Sr.


FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Chancie L. Blizzard Sr., 80, of Caledonia Manor Nursing Home, and formerly of 12160 Loop Road, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at the home.

Born June 24, 1921, in South Mountain, Pa., he was the son of the late Dan and Mazie M. Kauffman Blizzard.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Elizabeth Naugle Blizzard, on June 24, 2001. They were married Feb. 26, 1946.

He attended South Mountain School.

He was employed by South Mountain Restoration Center in the dietary department as a cook, retiring in 1975.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was a member of South Mountain Volunteer Fire Department; and South Mountain Fish and Game Association.

He is survived by three sisters, Mae Shepard of South Mountain, Lillian Phelps of Windsor, N.C. and Zellie Tracey of Quincy United Methodist Home; one brother, Donald Blizzard of South Mountain; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn M. Blizzard; two sons, Chancie L. Blizzard Jr. and Michael E. Blizzard; one sister, Hazel Shaeffer; and four brothers, Ray Blizzard, Earl Blizzard, Richard Blizzard and Gilbert Blizzard.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pa. Pastor C. Roy Daywalt will officiate. Burial will be in Strang's Cemetery, South Mountain, with military services by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Monday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.




Anna P. Sharon


Anna Pauline Sharon, 93, of 818 Georgia Ave., Hagerstown, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at her home.

Born April 7, 1908, in Fairview, Md., she was the daughter of the late Leonard M. and Nettie J. Dennis Stevens.

She is survived by her husband, of 55 years, James Amos Sharon; one daughter, Juliana J. Miller of Hagerstown; three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Louella Gladwinn, Blanche Householder, Gladys Shaw, Marguerite Hovermale and Catherine Socks; and two brothers, Lauren C. Stevens and Leonard N. Stevens.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. Kent Keesecker will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Helen M. Jones


WOODBINE, Md. - Helen Mary Jones, 90, of 16215 Ed Warfield Road, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster, Md.

Born March 29, 1911, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Clarence T. and Ella V. Sheffler Stouffer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard William Jones, in 1972.

She retired from Fairchild Corp., after 24 years.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was a member of Maugansville Homemakers; and Maugansville Fire Department Women's Auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Molnar of Woodbine; two sons, Jack E. Jones of Bear, Del. and Lewis Carleson Jones of Frazeysburg, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Quentin J. Fleming will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Sam O. Wood


Sam Owen Wood, 80, of 13921 Northmeadow Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 17, 1921, in Wayne County, Ill., he was the son of the late Fred and Mary Elise Sharp Wood.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force until retiring in 1968. He retired from Pangborn Corp. in 1985.

He was a member of BPO Elks 378; American Legion Morris Frock Post 42; and Beaver Creek Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Joan L. Wood; three daughters, Theresa A. Weaver of Wayne City, Brenda Kolls of Jacksonville, Fla. and Robyn Nobblitt of Hillsborough, N.C.; one sister, Evelyn McKinney of Wayne City; one brother, Wilbert Wood of Wayne City; five granddaughters; and four grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Bruce; and one brother, Joseph L. Wood.

Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd, Hagerstown.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Roy E. Shindle


Roy Eugene Shindle, 70, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Beverly Nursing Center in Hagerstown.

Born July 2, 1931, in State Line, Pa., he was the son of Roy C. Shindle and the late Emma Semler Burger.
