Woman dies in W.Va. 9 crash

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - A young Hedgesville woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when the Pontiac Grand Am she was driving struck another car head-on in front of a Texaco gas station on W.Va. 9 in Hedgesville, police said.

Michelle Rollyson, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene following the 3:05 p.m. crash, said Lt. Dennis Streets of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department.

Rollyson was headed east in the westbound lane when she struck a Ford Escort station wagon being driven by Robert Barefoot, 41, of Hedgesville, said Deputy W. Henderson, who investigated the accident.

Barefoot was transported to City Hospital then flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital where he was listed in serious condition Tuesday night, said Streets.

It is unclear why Rollyson was in the wrong lane of travel when she hit Barefoot's car, said Henderson.

A witness who was traveling behind Barefoot said Rollyson had drifted into the other lane, said Henderson.
