Interpretive Center grand opening set

BOONSBORO - The grand opening of the South Mountain Interpretive Center in Boonsboro, a facility set up to educate people about local Civil War history, is set for May 18-19, the chairman of the Western Maryland Heritage Foundation said.

Foundation Chairman Russ Richards gave the Boonsboro Town Council an update on the center at a meeting Monday night.

The town is leasing to the foundation the King Farm House at 241 Potomac St. for use as the interpretive center. The lease price is $1 a year, and the lease is good for five years and has renewal options.

The foundation expects to have renovations to the farmhouse near completion by the time of the grand opening.

Richards said Antietam National Battlefield will loan the foundation equipment to put in the center.

The Boonsboro Town Council plans to make a "walk-through" at the center on Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m.
