WILLIAMSPORT - The Williamsport Wildcats started out with a 19-4 run during the first 6:15 of the contest and that got them on their way to a 59-40 victory over the Smithsburg Leopards on Thursday night in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League boys basketball game.

"I'm pleased with our effort tonight," Williamsport coach Deron Crawford said. "It's probably the most complete game that we have played all season. We were pretty solid tonight."

Crawford complimented his team's performance in quite a few areas.

"It was the best job of the season as far as overall team boxing out goes," Crawford added. "We played hard on defense, we were unselfish on offense and we ran the floor well. We're hoping that we can use this as something like a springboard that we can build on."

Jason Knicley finished with game-high totals of 17 points and six rebounds for Williamsport (7-9, 5-8). Ben Giles scored 14 points and Chad Basore added 11 points for the Wildcats.

Brandon Colvin led Smithsburg (5-12, 3-10) with 11 points. Sean Hunt scored nine points for the Leopards.

"Williamsport came out ready to play," Smithsburg coach Eric Gerber said. "When you give them a 19-4 run to start the game, you are digging yourself a hole. It is a hard rut to come out of against an experienced team like Williamsport."
