Tuesday's Local Roundup

* BOYS BASKETBALL

WINFIELD, Md. - Frederick survived an inadvertant whistle in the final second of the game Tuesday night to escape with a 69-68 victory over South Carroll to stay in second place in the Central Maryland Conference.

The Cadets' Tommy McIntyre was fouled with .9 seconds to play and went to the line. He missed the first, then missed the second on purpose. As the ball caromed off the rim, an official blew his whistle, thinking the ball didn't hit the iron, and awarded the ball out of bounds to the Cavaliers.

But Frederick (9-6, 6-2) stole the inbounds pass to seal the win. Brian Lewis and McIntyre both had 19 points, Justin Shade had 17 points and Elyon Bush had 10 for the Cadets. Eliotte Middleton had six steals and McIntyre had five steals and four assists.
