Adenhart's jumper lifts Goretti at buzzer - Sunday roundup


Nick Adenhart hit a 15-foot jumper at the buzzer off a Marcus Hudson assist as No. 7 St. Maria Goretti handed Archbishop Spalding its first Baltimore Catholic League loss of the season, 47-45 on Sunday.

Spalding, 7-1 in the BCL, twice tied the game in the final seconds, the second coming with 10 seconds left. Goretti (14-8, 5-4) rushed the ball up court with Hudson driving the lane before dishing to Adenhart.

Matt Spierenburg scored a career-high 17 points for Goretti and had six blocked shots and four assists. Derrick Davis added 11 points and eight rebounds.

Berkeley Springs sweeps

PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Berkeley Springs won all six of its dual meets to win the Viking Smash tournament on Saturday.

Berkeley Springs defeated Braxton County, 45-33, Grafton, 45-27, Frankfort, 57-18, Liberty Harrison, 64-12, Petersburg, 69-9, and South Harrison, 78-0.

Josh Clark, wrestling at 189, recorded his 100th win of his career.

Blue Storm take third

CLINTON, Md. - Despite missing five starters, No. 7 Mercersburg Academy finished third in the Eagle International Tournament Saturday at Grace Brethern Christian School.

Jonathan Edwards (7-5) led the Blue Storm charge by winning four matches to win the 103-pound weight class. Kenan Wright (28-4), Seth Greenberg (23-6), and Grant Taylor (27-5) all took second place in the tourney. Graham Zifferer (21-12) placed third for Mercersburg.

Osbourne Par, Va., won the event, followed by Bishop Ireton, Va. and Mercersburg.

Other CVAL results

INWOOD, W.Va. - As reported Sunday, No. 2 Hedgesville swept four dual meets to win the Cumberland Valley Athletic League title on Saturday. No. 6 Jefferson went 2-2, including a 38-34 win over No. 5 Martinsburg, which also went 2-2 Saturday. Host Musselman went 1-3.


Super Bowl Sunday Run

The Chambersburg Road Runners Club will sponsor a Fun Run on Super Bowl Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Runners will meet in the parking lot adjacent to the Comfort Inn in Greencastle - take Exit 3 off I-81 and follow Route 11 south. The 5-mile run will follow rolling township roads.
