Candidates line up for 2002 elections

Since the close of the candidate filing period Saturday, 61 people have filed to run for a variety of offices from county magistrate to U.S. Senate.

Filings sent by mail had to be postmarked by midnight Saturday. There is a chance there could have been other filings sent by mail that had not arrived in election offices by Monday, election officials said.

Candidates running in the same party will square off against each other in the primary election May 14. The general election will be Nov. 5.

Because Board of Education races are nonpartisan, those races will be determined in the primary election.

Following are the candidates for offices in Berkeley and Jefferson counties and U.S. Congress:
