Wildcats survive in low scoring tilt

By JACK HILL III / Staff Correspondent

WILLIAMSPORT - The Williamsport Wildcats knew they had to do something about their six-game losing streak.

They ended their skid with a 35-26 win over the Francis Scott Key Eagles on Tuesday night in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League girls' basketball game.

"We needed that win bad," Williamsport coach Curtis Graff said. "Our assistant coaches have really worked hard in developing these kids. We have been getting better in a lot of things. It just hasn't showed up on the scoreboard. Tonight, it did. This was a team win. Everybody contributed in a lot of ways."

Lindsey Plotner, a six-foot sophomore center, pulled down 10 of her game-high 12 rebounds during the first half for Williamsport (4-9, 2-7).

"I think that we played really hard tonight," Plotner said. "We just really battled. I was just trying my hardest to help out the team and box out whoever I could. We know that in order to win a game, we have to have good defense. Defense is one of the main factors of the game. We needed this win to help build up our confidence for our next game against Boonsboro."

Sophomore guard Jess Clingan was the only player to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points for the Wildcats. Junior forward Jackie Hamilton grabbed six rebounds.

"All of our players did a good job of rebounding," Graff said. "Jackie Hamilton and Amber Taylor were doing a good job of rebounding and playing defense against girls that were three or four inches taller than them."

Sophomore Erin Jenkins came off the bench to lead FSK (2-12, 2-8) with eight points.

"We just didn't come out real strong tonight," Eagles coach Alice Rau said. "We were non-aggressive. We hustled at points, but we have got to hustle all of the time. That has been our season."
