Pa. woman injured when car hits tree


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A Greencastle woman suffered minor injuries Saturday when the car she was riding in ran into a tree, Pennsylvania State Police said.

William Carbaugh, 36, was driving the vehicle north on Grant Shook Road at 2:40 p.m. when he lost control and the car traveled off the road, striking a tree, police said.

Penny Sue Carbaugh, 36, a passenger in the vehicle, was taken by Greencastle EMS to Waynesboro Hospital for minor injuries, police said.

William Carbaugh was not injured. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts, police said.

Cavetown man remains in serious condition


A Cavetown man remained in serious condition Sunday night with injuries he received in a single-vehicle accident Friday night on Md. 66 in front of the Cavetown Planing Mill.

Miguel Battista Valdez, 22, of 11739 Mapleville Road, was taken to Washington County Hospital shortly after the 11:45 p.m. accident. A nursing supervisor said Valdez was in serious condition.

He was the passenger in a 1987 Ford Taurus that failed to make a curve, skidded off the road and struck a building on the mill property, Maryland State Police said.

The driver, Francisco Montiel Martinez, 24, same address, was treated and released, police said.

Martinez was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
