Man killed when car strikes utility pole

MARLOWE, W.Va. - A 36-year-old man was killed Sunday night when the car he was driving ran into a utility pole along U.S. 11 north near the West Virginia-Maryland line, police said.

The man's identity was not released because police had not notified his family Sunday night, said Berkeley County Sheriff's Cpl. Dennis Messick.

It appears the motorist ran into the utility pole after he lost control of the Dodge passenger car in a curve, said Messick.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Messick said.

The accident, which was reported at 6:50 p.m., occurred about 1 1/2 miles south of the state line near Kave's Auto, Messick said.
