Mail Call for 1/17

"On the dirty bird problems: Wherever there are trees, there are going to be birds. So who needs trees around the square, for two or three blocks each way? The only thing to go up town for are banks, offices and a few restaurants. So when the office workers go out to eat lunch, they have to walk in dirty bird droppings and when it rains, it's a mess to walk in. The mailboxes are even covered on top. So get rid of the trees in downtown that we don't need. Trees are for parks, backyards, highways and mountains. I love trees, but not in the square where we have to walk in the bird droppings. Get rid of the trees and we will get rid of the birds."

"I want to know what has happened to the walking policemen on Franklin Street? Where are they? We don't see them. It was a very nice officer that used to walk the beat. He would talk to people, he had a very good communication with the businesses and the people that lived there. I don't know where they are walking to or where they are at. But it was very nice to see a visible police officer. When are they going to return?"

"It is against the law to have your dog on someone else's property on your flowers. You can call the police, if they catch this dog on your property, or you can take a picture of it. The other person can be fined or they can be made to pick it up. So it is against the law."

"I am a resident of Sharpsburg and Tim Rowland has hit the nail on the head. I would like to know if someone is teaching sign language, because I think we need it down here."

"To the person who wanted the Christmas cards. Leave your number or address, I will send them to you or call you. My number is 240-420-0679."

"We need someone to come over here behind Security Road at the ballpark and spray those trees. They are terrible."

"Because there hasn't been any winners in the lottery is because there are so many combinations that are not sold. One of the unsold numbers have been winning. The thing wrong with the lottery is the payoff. If only one winner, it's about one half of the prize, if more than one winner, it's even worse. A person sharing $8 million with nine other winners is not concerned because they have $8 million. But to a real gambler, it was a poor bet, only get one tenth of what they should get."

"I wanted to state that since living in the area for about 10 years, I have come to the conclusion that we do not have enough police. Mainly because of traffic, I want to list the five roads or streets that contain the most speeders: Franklin, Washington, Salem Avenue west of Rhode Island Avenue, Northern Avenue, which is really bad and Halfway Boulevard, it's almost like a NASCAR track, except they are a little slower."

"The lady on Mt. Lena should send the owners of those dogs a bill every time they come in her yard. That dog's urine burns the plants and kills them, plus it stinks."

"Concerning Funkstown in getting a bypass. I think the best thing for everyone to do is give it to them. Because they don't want anyone to go through their little town. That would be the best thing that ever happened. They would go around the town and they would be happy."

"To the man who called in about the emissions testing. Well let me tell you, I took mine in there, I have an older car and they ripped that up so fast and I told them that 'if it fell apart, you will stand good for it.' They said, 'Oh no, if anything happens here, you stand good for it.' I said, 'If I take that car down the highway that fast, that would be it.' But they don't listen to you at all. The drivers that get in the cars, don't know anything about a car. I told them, 'You better be careful, because I will be ready for you when you come out of MY car."

"To the young lady that was running after her little white poodle down Mulberry Street. I hope and pray that you got it. I know once a poodle starts running, they will not stop. They are known for that. Please call Mail Call and let us know if you got it. I was one of the drivers who stopped because it ran in front of me. I have a poodle of my own and I know what you are going through."

"The question was, can an employer work you nine hours a day, seven days a week and not count any overtime and get away with it.? Well, nobody can work you seven days a week, nine hours a day and not pay you overtime, if you don't let them. If you let them get away with it, yes they can."

"About the hospital, there are too many people who live downtown who can not afford to pay for a taxicab to go to other places to be helped, when they can either walk, take a bus. The hospital has always been there, there has been a lot of money donated for it. All these people donate money and then they want to back out of it and get rid of the hospital. It's ridiculous, all these senior citizens homes cannot afford this, we are not wealthy."

"Way to go Tim, keep the spotlight shining on the Sharpsburg Mayor and Council and then maybe they will see how ridiculous they look to the rest of the world."
