School Board sends proposals for final vote



The Washington County Board of Education voted to take the following proposals to a final vote on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.

--Send 35 Eastern Elementary School students to Funkstown Elementary School.

Vote: 7-0


--Send 45 Eastern Elementary School students to Pangborn Elementary School.

Vote: 7-0


--Send 45 Eastern Elementary School students to Potomac Heights Elementary School.

Vote: 6-1


--Send 36 Williamsport Elementary School students to Fountain Rock Elementary School.

Vote: 5-1. One School Board member abstained.


--Send 220 North Hagerstown High School students to South Hagerstown High School.

Vote: 7-0


--Send 88 Williamsport High School students to Boonsboro High School.

Vote: 6-1


--Two years from now send 63 Boonsboro High School students to Smithsburg High School, on the conditions that it's necessary and space is available.

--Send nine Boonsboro High School students to South Hagerstown High School.

Vote: 7-0


--Discuss a possible expansion of E. Russell Hicks Middle School as part of the School Board's Capital Improvement Plan.

Vote: 7-0


--Send the School Board's special permission policy to the policy committee for a re-evaluation.

Vote: 7-0


--Allow students in fourth, seventh, ninth, 10th, and 11th grades to seek special permission to stay in their home schools if they are affected by redistricting.

--Put off considerations involving Maugansville and Conococheague elementary schools until the School Board discusses its Capital Improvement Plan.

The School Board rejected the following proposals:

--Send 38 Potomac Heights Elementary School students to Fountaindale Elementary School.

Vote: The motion died for lack of a second.


--Send 25 Paramount Elementary School students to Fountaindale Elementary School.

Vote: 7-0


--Send 29 Old Forge Elementary School students to Cascade Elementary School.

Vote: 7-0


--Send 14 Williamsport High School student to Clear Spring.

Vote: 7-0
