Resolution calls for foreign trade group

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday adopted a resolution creating a county Foreign Trade Zone Commission.

Foreign trade zones are designated areas in which companies don't have to pay tariffs when importing products.

Washington County officials expect to learn by summer whether the federal government approved an application for a 1,866-acre county zone.

The draft application for a foreign trade zone for Washington County was submitted to the U.S. Department of Commerce on Aug. 31.

The proposed zone contains seven sites.

Commission members are Brett Wilson for the Fort Ritchie site; Greg Larsen, airport site; Tony Dahbura, Maugansville; Jeff Camp, Hopewell Valley; Ric Kautz, Hagerstown; Rich Hoban, Williamsport; Jim LaFleur, Hancock.

Boyer reappointed to animal control board

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday reappointed Kelli Boyer to the Washington County Animal Control Authority board.


The appointment was recommended by board Chairman Tom DiGirolamo.

Commission added to natural gas contract

The Washington County Board of Commissioners unanimously agreed Tuesday to piggyback onto a state contract with Washington Gas Energy Services Inc. of Towson, Md.

The company will provide natural gas at county facilities.

The cost of the service is estimated at more than $116,000 per year, based on usage.
