Mail Call for 1/11

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"To the person who wanted to know about the creme that the farmers use on the udders for the cows. It's called udder creme, you can find it at any drug store."

"In reference to the real nice man of Washington County, a businessman that owned a salvage yard in Chewsville, Md. I personally and we had a meeting the other day with a lot of businesspeople and they think that it was unfair for The Herald-Mail to say this man was a good man, Mr. Elwood Grimm, would give you the shirt off his back. Then at the end of the article, it said that he was arrested, spent six months in prison and then later on in the '80s, he had another brush with the law and spent a year in jail for selling a silencer handgun. I think it is unfair at this time, to the family and the entire Washington County community. As a businessman of 50 years myself, this man paid me for everything I ever did for him. He paid me 100 percent. I guarantee you that a lot of other people can't make that statement about a man after he is dead. Why can't they leave the man alone after he died? If they had something to say, why didn't they say it before he died?"

"I want to thank the lady who works behind the seafood counter at Weis Market on Eastern Boulevard. You are very helpful, courteous and patient to all of your customers. It's refreshing to have someone like you who works with the public everyday."

"In response to the person who wanted to know the name of the skin conditioner to help their skin in winter weather. The name of it is bag balm and it comes in a green can."

"In response to the people complaining about the teenagers and the baggy clothes and foul language at Fairgrounds Park. I agree the children should not be back there using foul language. You want to complain when the kids are on the streets riding bikes and skateboards. What in Hagerstown would you like for these teenage kids to get into? Call in to Mail Call and let us parents with teenagers know so we know what to do with the teenagers nowadays. Because no matter what they do, go to the mall, ride their bike or go to the park, someone is always complaining. Please call Mail Call."

"I want to help the Mail Caller who asked about a creme used on cow's udders. You probably want something called bag balm. It is available through a mail order company called Home Trends in Rochester, N.Y. Call them at 1-800-810-2340."

"To the lady with dry hands, go get a can of bag balm, it will do the trick."

"To the person who wanted to know what the creme was for dried skin. It is called Udder Creme, you can get it at Wal-Mart."

"The sensible thing for the school would be to close Conococheague Elementary School and send its students to Clear Spring, Maugansville or Williamsport. Close Cascade Elementary School and send those students to Smithsburg, once they get to middle school, they will be going there anyhow. Those are the parents that are going to be crying about it, but if the county wants to get real serious about the money situation, they need to make some tough decisions."

"The board was caught off-guard by the Blue Ribbon Redistricting Committee voting common sense over politics. Unfortunately, Dr. Morgan and staff had their own agenda. It is now up to the elected board members. The citizens of Washington County will be watching."

"To the person in Mail Call that was talking about the boy in Tampa, Fla., get a grip. The plane didn't crash because there was something wrong with the planes, it crashed because he purposely crashed it into the building. He had a letter stating that he was on bin Laden's side. This is no accident like you are trying to make it out to be. He crashed it into the building."

"To the mother and daughter with the extremely dry skin. You can get the cream at Washington County Hospital Pharmacy. It is called Udderly Smooth, it's about $4.13 a bottle."

"We have a home on Mt. Lena Road. We have lots of flowers around our house and my neighbors are telling me that there is a man who goes jogging with a jogging outfit on and has two dogs, letting them urinate on my flowers. If I dare see him doing that, I will call the police and have him arrested for trespassing."
