Police log 1/10

Maryland State Police said a motorist fell asleep while driving on Jefferson Boulevard Thursday evening and his car hit two vehicles.

Police said Richard Phillip Gladhill, 27, of Hagerstown was driving a 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck west on Md. 64 when he fell asleep and the truck crossed the center line and swiped a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Valerie May Zimmerman, 33, of Smithsburg.

Gladhill's pickup continued traveling west in the eastbound lane and hit a 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup truck head on. The Dodge was driven by James Emmanuel Izer, 57, of Hagerstown.

Gladhill and Izer were taken to Washington County Hospital following the 6 p.m. accident. Izer was listed in fair condition and Gladhill was being treated in the emergency room Thursday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.
