Former Martinsburg man charged in porn case

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The discovery of child pornography in a computer at a Martinsburg computer shop last summer resulted in a child pornography charge being filed against a former Martinsburg man Monday.

Paul David Rene, 36, of 289 Newington Road, Hartford, Conn., was arraigned by Berkeley County Magistrate Joan Bragg on a charge of possession of child pornography, according to police and court records.

On July 6, Martinsburg Police responded to A-1 Computer Store at 500 W. King St., according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records.

An employee at the store told police he had completed some computer work for Rene because it was believed his computer may have experienced a lightning strike, according to court records.

While the computer worker was running a test on the computer, he discovered several pictures, court records said.

Police alleged there were hundreds of computer-generated images in the computer files.

Rene, who previously had an address of 1107 New York Ave., Martinsburg, was released on $2,000 bond, court records said.

Conviction on a charge of possession of child pornography carries a maximum sentence of up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $2,000, court records said.
