HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Money was stolen from a pizza delivery man Wednesday night after he was kicked in the ribs and his face was sprayed with pepper spray at the entrance to Cherry Run Village, West Virginia State Police said.

J.C.'s Pizza received a phone order for the pizza from a pay telephone at the 7-Eleven in Hedgesville, said Trooper J.C. Weaver.

The caller said he would meet the pizza delivery person at the entrance to Cherry Run Village, which is off Cherry Run Road about three miles west of Hedgesville, Weaver said.

The pizza delivery man pulled up to the entrance of Cherry Run Village at about 7:30 p.m. and approached two men in a car to ask them if they ordered a pizza, Weaver said.

The men said no and the delivery man returned to his truck.

One man got out of the passenger side of the car, approached the delivery man's truck and sprayed pepper spray on the pizza employee, Weaver said.

As the pizza employee struggled with the assailant, the second man got out of the driver's side of the car and kicked the pizza employee in the ribs, Weaver said.

It was not clear how much money the men took, although the pizza employee believes it might have been about $160, Weaver said.
