Wahneta F. Bowers


FAIRPLAY - Wahneta F. Bowers, 74, of Fairplay, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at her home.

Born July 31, 1927, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Cyril Benjamin and Helen Irene Miner Ford.

She was a 1946 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sharpsburg.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Garman L. Bowers Sr.; one daughter, Karen W. Pierce of Fairplay; one son, Garman L. Bowers Jr. of Fairplay; two sisters, Florella L. Eichelberger of Sharpsburg, and Lavenia M. Jones of Hagerstown; two grandsons, Michael A. Pierce II and Garman L. Bowers III; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Darrell L. Layman will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Delores M. Shipway


FLINTSTONE, Md. - Delores M. Shipway, 66, of Flintstone, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Memorial Hospital.

Born May 14, 1935, in St. Clairsville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Virchie Mae Burdge McFarland.

She was employed by Ali Ghan Shrine Club.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She was a member of Ali Ghan Shrine Railroad Ladies Unit, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Cresaptown Eagles 2883 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, John Richard "Dick" Shipway; two sons, James Shipway of Boonsboro, and Edward Shipway of Flintstone; one brother, Harold W. McFarland of Cumberland, Md.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Allen McFarland; and one sister, June K. Garrett.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, Md. The Rev. Floyd Bender will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, near Artemas, Pa.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Anna M. Rohrer


MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Anna Mary Wenger Rohrer, 94, of 14958 Fort Loudon Road, and formerly of Dayton, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002, at her home.

Born Feb. 18, 1907, in Augusta County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Adam and Amanda Rohrer Wenger.

Her husband, Abram I. Rohrer, died Dec. 26, 1992.

She was a member of Pleasant View Old Order Mennonite Church, Dayton.

She is survived by one son, Wayne S. Rohrer of Mercersburg; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and five brothers. She was the last of her immediate family.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Pleasant View Mennonite Church, Dayton. Bishop Marion Wenger will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon and evening at the home of David and Martha Rohrer in Dayton.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Local arrangements are by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa.




Ann J. Knight


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Ann J. Knight, 83, of 57 Chadwick Drive, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Sept. 20, 1918, in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Anna Marie Hartstein Morton.

Her husband, Harry L. Knight, died Sept. 27, 1980. They were married April 1, 1942.

She was a graduate of Taylor Alderdice High School, Pittsburgh.

She was a homemaker. She previously worked for the Lodi School District in Lodi, Calif.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post 373 and the Ladies Auxiliary of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319, both of Greencastle.

She was a volunteer several days a week for the past 30 years at the Lilian S. Besore Memorial Library in Greencastle.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Liebelt Bowden of North Dakota, and Karen A. VanSickle of Greencastle; two sons, Richard C. Knight of Crystal Lake, Ill., and David C. Knight of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister, Olive Pemberton of Laguna Hills, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

Memorial services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

There will be visitation one-half hour prior to the services on Thursday.
