Mail Call for 12/31

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"To all those veterans out there who remember the Battle of the Bulge, Merry Christmas."

"I am a parent and I would like to say that the reason we have so many problems with children these days is because of us, the parents. We can't correct our kids like we are supposed to. I know there are some bad people but most of them are good. It is our politicians, the reason I won't vote for none of them. Some of them have been in politics so long they can't even think. Whenever we catch these kids out here robbing or stealing from someone, train them and send them to war. We have a war going on now and this is where those kids should be."

"In response to the letter to the editor from Robert Brown in Thursday's, Dec. 27, Herald-Mail. Teachers' salaries are far more out of line with other counties than supervisors' salaries are."

"I am looking for a group for widowed people in the 40 to 50 age group. My number is 1-717-597-5754. If anyone knows of one, give me a call."

"Of all the things that the government can get involved in to change, one thing in particular is the medical supply business. The ones that charge outrageous prices for simple little gadgets. They charge that much just because it is attached to the medical supply outfit. I saw on TV the other day, these little booties that you put on your feet that help stimulate blood flow. Two little cloth booties attached to a machine that helps massage your feet. They wanted $300 for that. The only reason they charge that much is because it has a medical supply tag on it. This is something that the government should get involved in. Force these prices down; $300 for something like this, little cloth booties attached to a machine."

"I have a suggestion on how to handle any terrorist that tries to do a copycat thing on lighting their sneakers with a bomb on them in the future. Go ahead and light the sneakers for him and then throw him out of the plane at 30,000 feet. We have to get this country back again and we have to do what we have to do to the people who want to destroy the United States."

"I am calling from Sherwood Drive in Greencastle, Pa. I am trying to get some information on the Pennsylvania blue plate law. It's my understanding that if you move from Virginia, Maryland or West Virginia, you don't have to get new license plates or driver's licenses. My neighbors have Maryland and West Virginia plates and I can't get any information from the police. When I moved here, I got Pennsylvania tags but now I am trying to get Maryland tags and license plates."

"The person that ripped off my neighbor's flag in the 300 block of South Burhans Boulevard is scum. Anyone that would do this kind of damage to an American flag, steal it or tear it up is very low."

"I know it's the holidays and stuff, but could people use some common sense when driving? Especially in the store parking lots, please don't go the wrong way when the arrow is going the other way and nearly bang into the parked cars. Don't go through the red lights. We are all on the roads together and we are all still out doing our holiday shopping or getting ready for the New Year. Just use common sense so we don't have any accidents."
