Roy H. Conrad


Roy Homer Conrad, 76, of 151 Chantilly Court, Hagerstown, who died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, retired from the Esskay Company in Baltimore, where he was employed for 31 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Conrad; his mother, Edna Wiles Conrad Shank; and one stepson, William Swartz.




Jacob E. Kennedy


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Jacob E. "Jake" Kennedy, 83, of 829 Maple St., who was living with his daughter at 2735 Leitersburg Pike, in Waynesboro, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born July 20, 1918, in Marion, Pa., he was the son of the late Warren S. and Mary Kathryn Maun Kennedy.

His wife, Ruth M. Sowers Kennedy, whom he married Nov. 5, 1941, died Aug. 11, 1980.

He attended Shady Grove and Clay Hill schools near Greencastle, Pa.

He was employed as a security guard by Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro, for more than 20 years. Before that he worked as a laborer for various orchards and for Green Hill Cemetery.

He was a member of Church of the Brethren and had attended Hades Church of the Brethren near Waynesboro.

He is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Crouse of Waynesboro; one son, Wayne C. Kennedy of Waynesboro; one sister, Elva June Cool of Hagerstown; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, six brothers; and an infant brother and infant sister.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. Deacon William E. Shilling will officiate. Burial will be in Browns Mill Cemetery in Kauffman, Pa.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Nettie M. Ayers


Nettie M. Ayers, 85, of 16801 Alcott Road, Hagerstown, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at her home.

Born Oct. 22, 1916, in Clifford, Pa., she was the daughter of the late DeForrest W. and Lila Warren Millard.

She was employed for 15 years by University of Maryland as a cost control accountant.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert Ayers; one son, Larry Paulus of Myersville, Md.; one brother, DeForrest W. Millard Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville. The Rev. Thomas Fralin will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Myersville.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.




Margaret V. Paylor


MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Margaret V. Paylor, 89, of 9911 Loudon Road, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born March 10, 1912, in McConnellsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Luther and Sophia Houpt Gordon.

Her husband, Gaily V. Paylor, died May 30, 1996.

She assisted her husband on the family dairy farm.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Oneda P. Stahl of Mercersburg and Mary Bivens of McConnellsburg; two sons, Harold V. Paylor of Mercersburg and Alan G. Paylor of Chambersburg; two sisters, Velma Lake of Waynesboro, Pa., and Mary Richards of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; one brother, Roy W. Gordon of McConnellsburg; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Mercersburg. The Rev. Michael L. Baughman will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in McConnellsburg.

Viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., in Mercersburg, and Monday at the church one hour prior to services.

Michael FitzPatrick


MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Michael FitzPatrick, 56, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born Feb. 27, 1945, in Albany, N.Y., he was the son of Mary FitzPatrick of Alexandria, Va.

He was a 1963 graduate of O'Connell High School in Arlington, Va. attended Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina, and received a degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1976.

He served for 25 years in the West Virginia Division of Corrections, the last 10 years as a probation and parole officer in the Berkeley District and taught courses in criminal justice at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.Va., and Martinsburg.

He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves in Bar Harbor, Maine, from 1965 to 1967.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Christopher FitzPatick of Rineyville, Ky., and Andrew FitzPatrick of Clermont, Fla.; three sisters, Patricia Bonadies of Aiken, S.C., Anne Ribler of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Kathleen Stotler of Warrenton, Va.; three grandsons; one aunt and two cousins.
