Local Roundup - Southern Fulton girls win Hancock tourney

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Southern Fulton won the Hancock Holiday Tournament defeating Berkeley Springs 73-37 Saturday night.

Southern's Kelly True earned Most Valuable Player honors.

Southern Fulton (7-3) outscored Berkeley Springs 23-10 in the first quarter and 40-20 at halftime. True scored 25 points, had seven rebounds and five steals. Meghan White and Jodi Appel were named to the All-Tournament team.

Danielle Fox, who had nine points, and Meghan Zahnow, who had 12 points, were named to the team for Berkeley Springs.

Alicia Barnard of Hancock and Stacey Yeakle of Clear Spring were also named to the team.

The consolation game was canceled.

BOWIE, Md. - Mona-Gail Baker scored 24 points to lead Bowie to the Best Western Holiday Classic championship.

The Rams (5-2) were led by All-Tournament selection Casey Murray with 21 points and seven rebounds. Makia Staves had her second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Gaynell Reese added 11 points in the loss.
