Money stolen from EconoLodge motel

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Someone stole an undisclosed sum of money from a Greencastle motel Thursday morning, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The man entered the EconoLodge, 50 Pine Drive, at 4:45 a.m. and demanded money, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 30s, 6-feet tall and wearing a blue nylon jacket, police said.

No one was injured in the robbery, police said.

Cash, drugs seized during traffic stop

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police seized cash and the drugs Ecstasy and cocaine from a New York man they pulled over for driving a stolen car Friday morning.

Police pulled over a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix with Tennessee registration at 10:22 a.m. near mile marker 5 on Interstate 81, police said. The car was reported stolen from the National Car Rental in Newark, N.J., after it was not returned when the lease was up, police said.


After stopping the car, police searched the suspect and seized $13,505 in cash, drug paraphernalia, 28 grams of Ecstasy and an undetermined amount of cocaine.

Alyn J. Massey, 25, of Bronx, N.Y., was charged with possession of controlled substances and receiving stolen property, police said.

He was arraigned by District Justice Shirley Shatzer, police said. He was in Franklin County Prison Sunday night.

Area man faces rape, burglary charges

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Southampton Township woman was assaulted and raped by an acquaintance Wednesday night, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The 22-year-old woman told police she had known the man for about three months when he arrived at her residence Wednesday around 9:30 p.m. and forced his way in. Once inside, he allegedly physically assaulted her and drove her to his Guilford Township home, where she was raped, police said.

While returning her to her residence, the vehicle the man was driving had a flat tire. While he was changing the tire, the woman fled to a nearby store and called police at 1:30 a.m., police said.

Kevin Wayne Long, 25, of Chambersburg, was charged with burglary and rape, police said.

It was not clear why he was charged with burglary, and no further information was available.

He was arraigned by District Justice Shirley Shatzer and put in Franklin County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bond, police said. A corrections officer said Long no longer was in the jail Sunday.

Woman, 77, injured in crash on Pa. 16

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A Waynesboro, Pa., woman was injured when she allegedly rear-ended another vehicle Friday morning, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Silvia Weaver, 77, was driving a 1990 Oldsmobile sedan west on Pa. 16 when she allegedly rear-ended a 1993 Jeep driven by Nancy A. Wible, 38, of Mont Alto, Pa., at 10:45 a.m. near Hollowell Church Road, police said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, but Weaver suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Waynesboro Hospital, police said. She was in satisfactory condition Sunday night, a hospital spokesman said.

Driver avoids injury when car flips onto roof

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was not seriously injured when he lost control of his car and it flipped onto its roof Saturday afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police said.

William E. Warren, 30, was driving a 1998 Hyundai sedan southbound on Sollenberger Road in Hamilton Township when he allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to hit an embankment and roll on its roof at 12:20 p.m., police said.

Warren was wearing a seat belt and had minor injuries, police said.
