Six injured in two-vehicle accident in Washington County

Six people were injured when a 1997 Pontiac and a 1994 Ford pickup truck collided at Md. 62 and Old Forge Road Thursday, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies said the occupants of the Pontiac were Robert Allen McKee, 41; Tiffany Childers, 11; Frank N. McKee, 78; and Gloria McKee, 79; all of Hagerstown.

Robert McKee and Childers were treated and released from Washington County Hospital.

Frank and Gloria McKee were admitted, but no further details were available.

The driver of the pickup truck, Kaylena Yvonne Williams, and her daughter were taken to Washington County Hospital for minor injuries.

Deputies are continuing their investigation.

Two walk-behind mowers taken from Hagerstown rental business

Burglars broke into a Hagerstown rental business, loaded two walk-behind mowers onto a truck and fled after smashing through a chain-link fence.


Maryland State Police said the thieves climbed over a fence surrounding Rentals Unlimited at 1458 S. Potomac St., between noon Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday.

They took two Bobcat mowers from a storage trailer and placed them onto a 2001 International 4700 stake body truck also on the Rentals Unlimited lot.

The thieves then fled on Md. 65, police said.

The truck is a white with blue "Rentals Unlimited" stickers on the doors. It has an 18-foot bed with black stakes, a lift gate and may have Maryland tags 99H471, police said.

The mowers are green with black handlebars. One has a 36-inch deck and the other has a 48-inch deck.

The items were valued at $46,000.

Brunswick man faces charges in connection with drug sting

FREDERICK, Md. - A Brunswick, Md., man was arrested on a drug charge early Thursday after an undercover police sting at the John Hanson Apartment Complex.

Walter Lee Smothers, 42, of Orndorff Drive, was charged with distribution of fake crack cocaine and possession with the intent to distribute fake crack cocaine.

Police alleged that Smothers sold fake crack cocaine to an undercover member of the Frederick Police drug enforcement unit.

Man takes purse from woman at Francis Scott Key Mall

FREDERICK, Md. - A thief sneaked up behind an elderly woman walking toward the Hecht's store at the Francis Scott Key Mall and stole her purse Thursday afternoon, Maryland State Police in Frederick said.

The man, who was dressed in dark clothes, came up behind her and grabbed her purse from her shoulder, police said.

The purse contained $700.

The thief got into the passenger seat of a blue or black older model Honda Civic or Prelude. The car, which was driven by a man, took off on Spectrum Drive toward Md. 85.

Brass ornaments stolen from three headstones in cemetery

Someone stole the brass ornaments from three headstones at Parkhead Cemetery on National Pike, according to a Wednesday report by the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Cpl. Pete Lazich said the headstones were for three members of the same family.

The value of the ornaments was not determined.

Money taken from children's rides in game room at Valley Mall

HALFWAY - An undisclosed amount of money was reported stolen Thursday morning from the children's rides at the Pocket Change game room at Valley Mall, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Vehicle windows shot out by pellets or BBs in Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. - Numerous vehicle windows were shot out by pellets or BBs between 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Frederick Police.

No specific area of the city appeared to be targeted.
