Wanda E. Wolford


WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Wanda Elaine Wolford, 68, of 127 Ridge Ave., died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at her home.

Born May 27, 1933, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Harry D. and Agnes H. Wetzel Wolford.

She attended Waynesboro schools.

Before retiring, she held various part-time jobs in the Waynesboro area. Earlier, she worked as a machine operator at Freeman's Shoe Co. in Waynesboro and later at Sylvania Shoe Co. in Greencastle, Pa.

She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by a son, Jeffery A. Wolford of Waynesboro; two sisters, Florence E. Blickenstaff of Smithsburg and Henrietta H. Walker of Orbisonia, Pa.; a brother, John D. Wolford of Gettysburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Silvia M. Conrad, and a brother, Harry David Wolford.

Services will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Walter A. Stuart will officiate.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Claire E. Gelsinger


GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Claire E. Carbaugh Gelsinger, 85, of 3821 Hill Road, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Dec. 8, 1916, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Catharine McFadden Carbaugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley L. Gelsinger, in 1972.

She helped her husband on the family farm. She also was employed for 26 years by the former Stanley Co. in Chambersburg, Pa.

She was a member of Mount Tabor Brethren in Christ Church near Mercersburg.

She is survived by a daughter, Shirley M. Swisher of Greencastle; a son, Melvin J. Gelsinger of Greencastle; a brother, James R. Carbaugh of Greencastle; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a great-great-grandson.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. Bishop H. Frank Kipe will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Robert E. Adams


GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Robert Edward "Bobby" Adams, 78, of Great Cacapon, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born May 7, 1923, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Nelson Jacob and Elsie Smith Adams.

He worked as a handyman.

He is survived by a brother, William Leroy Adams of Great Cacapon, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Virginia Duckwall, and three brothers, Charles Bernard Adams, Johnnie Lloyd Adams and Jim Smith.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Pastor Steve R. Dawson will officiate. Burial will be in Great Cacapon Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at noon.




Geneva N. Leatherman


LEITERSBURG - Geneva N. Leatherman, 86, of Little Antietam Road, who died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, was born Nov. 26, 1915.




Mary B. Verdier


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary B. Baker Verdier, 101, of Penn Hall Nursing Center, 1425 Philadelphia Ave. and formerly of Menno-Haven Village and 701 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, at the nursing home.

Born Feb. 8, 1900, in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Abram J. and Amanda Gates Baker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph M. Verdier, in 1987. They were married Dec. 24, 1919.

She attended Quincy Township schools.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by a daughter, Jayne V. Bard of Chambersburg; a son, Ralph M. Verdier Jr. of Chambersburg; three grandsons, James E. Bard, Ralph M. Verdier III and J. Kirk Verdier; a great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Mount Zion Cemetery, Franklin County. The Rev. Luis R. Rodriguez will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to Penn Hall Nursing Center, 1425 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.




Ruth B. Tewalt


Ruth B. Tewalt, 96, of Loyalton, 20009 Rosebank Way in Hagerstown and formerly of 826 Washington Ave., died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 14, 1905, in Lonaconing, Md., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Franklin and Helen Lufretia Weitzell Broadwater.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond R. Tewalt, in 1968.

She was a graduate of Columbia Business College, Hagerstown.
