Denver N. DeShong

HARRISONVILLE, Pa. - Denver Nile DeShong, 76, of Double D Lane, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Feb. 22, 1925, in Saluvia, Pa., he was the son of the late Russell J. and Helen Frances Truax DeShong.

He retired in 1985 from the Pennsylvania Department of Forest and Waters after 35 years of service, where he worked as a forest foreman on Sideling Hill Mountain.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant with the U.S. Army in Europe.

He was a member of Sideling Hill Christian Church in Needmore, Pa.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Steach DeShong, whom he married Feb. 7, 1948; four daughters, Linda Benson and Jill Stains, both of Harrisonville, Judy Robinson of McConnellsburg, Pa. and Jackie Berkstresser of Slippery Rock, Pa.; two sons, Nile DeShong of Pleasant Hall, Pa. and Tony DeShong of Harrisonville; a sister, Beulah Hann of Harrisonville; eight grandchildren; and a step-granddaughter.


Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at M. R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa. The Revs. William Swope and Duane Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Sideling Hill Christian Church Cemetery, Needmore.

Visitation will be Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Cameron C. Cook

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Cameron Chase Cook, infant son of Christopher Lee Cook and Ann Kathryn Welty of Route 1, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at City Hospital, Martinsburg, W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by paternal grandparents, Lyle and Diane Cook; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Patricia Welty, and Lois and Ray Dillow; and maternal great-grandmother, Kathryn Welty, all of Harpers Ferry.

Graveside services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Silver Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate.

Arrangements are by Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

James R. Faircloth Sr.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James R. "Toodie" Faircloth Sr., 40, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at his home.

Born June 5, 1961, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of Eleanor Nicely Faircloth of Martinsburg and the late Manley T. Faircloth.

He was formerly employed with Rockwell Moving Co.

He was a member of Shenandoah Bible Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, James R. Faircloth Jr. of Martinsburg; two sisters, Shelva Clopper of Martinsburg, and Carolyn Saville of Glengary, W.Va.; one brother, Donald T. Faircloth of Martinsburg; and fiance, Kathleen Hutchinson of Martinsburg.

Services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Pastor Donald B. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Catherine J. Gordon

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Catherine Jane Gordon, 53, of Sipes Mill Road, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at her home.

Born May 28, 1948, in Gem, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Margaret Wagaman Mellott.

She was a homemaker.

She was a 1966 graduate of Southern Fulton High School.

She was a Protestant.

She is survived by her husband, D. Steven Gordon, whom she married Sept. 9, 1966; one daughter, Angela Jane Gordon of Needmore; three sons, David S. Gordon Jr. and Dick Michael Gordon, both of Needmore, and Phillip Henry Gordon of Warfordsburg, Pa.; three brothers, Eugene Mellott of Needmore, Frank Mellott of Knobsville, Pa., and Jerry Mellott of Warfordsburg; one granddaughter; and two stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Monica E. Mellott; and one brother, Kenneth Mellott.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Damascus Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery Road, Big Cove Tannery, Pa. The Rev. Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Damascus Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St. in Hancock, today from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Sunday. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be open today from 2 to 9 p.m.

Gladys S. Knable

Gladys Suella Schetrompf Knable, 88, of 17731 Mason Dixon Road, Hagerstown and formerly of Needmore, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at York Hospital, York, Pa.

Born March 30, 1913, in Warfordsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Alfred Frank and Anna Bell Brady Schetrompf.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jabez Knable, in 1993. They were married May 29, 1929.

She worked for H.J. Heinz Co. in Chambersburg, Pa. from 1944 to 1956. Later, she worked on a farm and was a homemaker.

She was a member of Assembly of God Church, Hagerstown.
