Roundup - Gaels advance to York tournament final

YORK, Pa. - Marcus Hudson's three steals in the last four minutes of the game allowed St. Maria Goretti to score the final eight points of the game Wednesday and left the Gaels to a 47-46 victory over McDonogh in the first round of the York Special Olympics Tournament.

Trailing 46-39 midway through the final quarter, Goretti's pressure defense cashed in as Hudson made three of his five steals for the game and capped them with feeds to Derek Davis for layups. Davis completed the comeback with a pass to center Matt Spierenburg for a layup with 28 seconds remaining for the winning hoop.

Goretti made two defensive stops in the waning seconds to secure the win.

The Gaels face York Catholic today in the finals.

Spierenburg finished with 13 points to go with seven blocks and two steals while Hudson added nine assists. Josh Carter and Davis finished with 10 points each.

LANHAM, Md. - Krystal Hood had 17 points and six assists as Frederick took advantage of numerous South River turnovers to advance easily to the final of the washington Bible College Tournament.

Maria Brown added 11 points for the Cadets (3-1), who play Dunbar in the tournament final tonight at 6.
