Methadone clinic opens
A methadone clinic has opened for business in Hagerstown.
The Hagerstown Treatment Center at 217 E. Antietam St., a methadone distribution and addiction counseling center for people addicted to heroin and other opiates, opened May 18, said Patrick R. Connelly, regional director for Colonial Management Group.
Florida-based Colonial Management will run the clinic.
J. Ramsay Farah, a former Hagerstown doctor who works as a medical director at Sierra Military Health in Baltimore, will be the clinic's physician.
The clinic opened despite strong opposition from city officials and citizens' groups, who protested the need for a local methadone clinic. Clinics opponents also voiced concern that the facility could fuel an open heroin drug market outside the center and in the surrounding residential neighborhood.
