5 hurt in bus-truck crash

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Five people suffered minor injuries in the crash of a 16-passenger bus and a pick-up truck on a curve on W.Va. 230 south of Shepherdstown shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday.

All five were treated at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., and Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Charles Town, W.Va., then released, hospital spokespersons said.

Details of the accident were not available from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Steve Holmes, assistant chief of the Shepherdstown Fire Department, said the road was closed to traffic while ambulances from several area companies responded. "There were a lot of people out there," Holmes said.

He said four of those taken to hospital were on the bus. The fifth was the driver of the truck. Two passengers in the truck were not injured, Holmes said.

Ambulance crews responded from Shepherdstown; Charles Town; Ranson, W.Va.; Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; and Sharpsburg, Holmes said.
