Local Roundup - Indians, Rockets make District 3 Tournament

NEWVILLE, Pa. - Kelly Carpenter's three-run homer in the fifth inning gave the Indians a victory over Carlisle, earning Waynesboro a trip to the District 3 tournament by taking fifth in the Mid Penn tourney.

Waynesboro (16-8) will play Elizabethtown on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Zinn's Park in Reading, Pa.

Jana Reitz and Emily Hess had two hits for the Indians against Carlisle. Earlier, Waynesboro was shut out by Central Dauphin.

Holly Wagaman pitched both games, allowing 17 hits while striking out eight in 14 innings.

NEWVILLE, Pa. - Freshman Susan West struck out 18 in the Rockets' win over Middletown and 13 more in a loss to East Pennsboro in the Mid Penn Tournament.

James Buchanan (16-7) finished fourth in the tourney, advancing to next week's District 3 tournament.

Jess Ross and Jess Stough had two hits and an RBI for the Rockets against Middletown. James Buchanan played with one senior, one junior and all freshmen against East Pennsboro due to senior prom.

Tia Hixon went 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Trish Douglas had two hits, including a triple, and two RBI for Southern Fulton (16-2).

Frederick 7, Funkstown 6: Matt Tedrick had two hits and three RBI, Phillip Powell had two hits and Ben Mertz had a two-run homer for Funkstown. Chris Schildt had six strikeouts, while Cole Bellon had four.


American Little League

Funkstown Legion 3, FOP 2: Demetrius Stubbs threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Funkstown. Joe Schildt allowed two hits and struck out nine for FOP.

West End Little League

Moose 9, Elks 5: Josh Kearbey and Brandon Norris had three hits, while J.R. Head had two hits for Moose. Josh Ocascio had three hits, while Tim Leather, Ross Carpenter and Norman Potter had two hits for Elks.

West End Minor League

FOP 17, Reds 5: Dalton Shoemaker, Charlie Snyder, Kenny Kitchen and Dakota Burns had two hits for FOP. Brandon Hess and Chad Bean had two hits for Reds.

Hagerstown PONY League

Firefighters 12, Goodwill 5: Matt Byers had two hits, Cory Broadwater had two homers, Jeremy McAfee had three hits, including two homers, and Logan Miller homered for Firefighters. Brandon Blahut had 11 strikeouts. Chris Bumbaugh had two hits for Goodwill.

Halfway Junior League

Hartles 18, Minnich's 8: Kyle Lewis and Andy Murray had three hits for Hartles. Steve Picone had two hits for Minnich's. Hartles clinched the first half title.

Valley Little League

Dorsey Bros. 9, SMRG 2: Jeremy Martin and Frank Regan had two hits for Dorsey Bros.

Conococheague Little League

Taylor Trucking 6, Wolfe's 4: Ryan Seachrist had two hits and two RBI for Taylor Trucking. Tysen Palmer added two RBI. Fracesco Scotto DiCarlo had three hits for Wolfe's.

Federal Little League

Alsatia 6, Kiwanis 1: Matt Mulieri and David Bowen each had three hits and David Plank struck out six for Alsatia. Nick Mussolino had two hits for Kiwanis.

South Mountain Little League

Pete's Barber Shop 5, Post 10 1: Daniel Perkins had three hits, while Nick Knowles and Adam Flook had two hits each for Pete's. Brandon Rohrer threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts for the winners.

Maugansville Little League

Brewer's Saab 11, Home Care Pharmacy 10: Joe Pilch, Kenny Shanholtz, Kenny Platt and Chris Benner each had two hits to lead Brewer's. Pilch and Shanholtz each homered. Aaron Mills had three hits, while Derek Keener and Greg Luhouse had two each for Home Care.

Washington Co. Girls Softball

Larry Allen 24, Longmeadow Rotary 13: Emily Malott hit a grand slam and Anna Weir, Courtney Hutchison, Lauren Brown and Casey Siler all homered to lead Larry Allen. Katie Mroz and Beth Decker added two hits for the winners.

Dynamark 15, New ERA Homes 14: Melissa Lloyd and Courtney Whorten homered and Kelly Toms, Cara Thompson and Brittany Churchey all had two hits for Dynamark. Casey Christal hit a grand slam for New ERA.
