Mitch Hardy had clutch hits in the sixth and seventh innings and Jacob Marquis went the distance on the mound as Grace Academy won the Mason-Dixon Christian Conference championship 11-3 over Shalom Christian on Thursday at Hagerstown Community College.
"The boys wanted it tonight, and it paid off," Grace coach Ed Sweeney said.
Leading 3-2 going into the sixth, Hardy gave Grace breathing room with a bases-loaded triple. He followed it up with a two-run single in the seventh as the Knights (9-8) scored eight runs in the final two frames.
Nathan Sweeney went 3-for-3, while Marquis allowed three hits and one earned run for Grace.

West makes Big East second team
Virginia Tech first baseman John West, a graduate of Catoctin High School, was named to the Big East Conference second team on Thursday.
West leads the Hokies in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.365), hits (72), triples (4), home runs (7), slugging percentage (.569) and on-base percentage (.413).
West, a junior, was a Herald-Mail Co-Player of the Year in 1998, along with Chambersburg's Alex Hart. He led the Tri-State area that year with a .652 batting average. He had 14 doubles, five homers and 34 RBI.
