Class 1A South quarterfinals

Brunswick 9, Smithsburg 0: Justin Tucker allowed only a single in the fifth inning as Brunswick won its 12th straight game to eliminate Smithsburg at Brunswick.

Brunswick (18-3, No. 4 Herald-Mail poll) scored three runs in the third inning as Kevin Goode delivered an RBI double. Chris Baugher, Alan Webber and Goode each had two hits and Wayne Toms had two RBI for the Railroaders.

Catoctin 10, South 4: Chad Wolfe struck out 11 and Catoctin scored eight runs in the third inning, four coming on Chris Legore's grand slam.

Kevin Favorite had three hits and three RBI, Ryan Nesbitt and Brad Nesbitt had three hits, and Wolfe and Chris Kaleo had two hits apiece for Catoctin (6-15).

Danny Fowler had two hits for South (9-12).

Chris Wright struck out four of the six batters he faced as four Warriors combined on a one-hitter.

Walkersville 1, Linganore 0: Bill Auch's no-hit bid was spoiled with one out to go, but the Lions won a spectacular pitching duel at home. Robbie Brunner and Ray Dorsey led off the bottom of the first with back-to-back doubles for the only run of the game to lead Walkersville (16-5, No. 5 Herald-Mail poll). Auch then took over, allowing only two baserunners and only striking out two.

Mid Penn quarterfinals

Waynesboro 5, Northern 4: Joey Weatherald's single into the gap capped a three-run seventh as the Indians moved into the Mid Penn semifinals. Eli Rock's second hit of the day knocked in the tying run and he later scored the game-winner for Waynesboro (14-7, No. 7 Herald-Mail poll). Weatherald and Jeremy Geesaman, who started the comeback with a single, had two hits for the Indians, who advance to play at Lower Dauphin today at 4.

Mechanicsburg 4, Chambersburg 1: Chad Braniff struck out seven in a complete game, but the Trojans watched a seven-game winning streak end at Henninger Field. Chambersburg (16-5, No. 2 Herald-Mail poll) will be the league's No. 2 seed in the District 3 playoffs starting next week against Lancaster-Lebanon's No. 4 seed.

Grace 10, CVCS 7: Danny Carver had two hits, including a double, as the Knights struck early and often for a win at Hellane Park. Grace (8-8) plays its semifinal at 5 Thursday at HCC.
