You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"To the person who wanted to know if boycotting the Confederate Flag in Maryland is possible? I don't understand your question. The state of Maryland does not have a confederate flag in any of its official documents. So how can you ban something that is not already there? However, if you were referring to private individuals use of the confederate flag, then you should already know that private persons have the right to free expression. So therefore, you cannot ban their use of the confederate flag either. Get a clue America!"

"I am calling about North High's prom. I don't understand why you can't put the pictures in of the young peoples' stuff in the paper. Have something good in the paper instead of the bombs, killings, etc. The next proms coming up are, Smithsburg, June 1, South High has theirs coming up, Hancock, Clear Spring and other private schools. Put some pictures in. I am elderly and I love to see them. Why does everything have to be bad? Please put some good write- ups and some good pictures of the youngsters."

"I have been reading the paper, I wonder how long it is going to take the media to realize that it is not foot and mouth disease. Cows don't have feet they have hooves. It is hoof and mouth disease. Get it right."

"I am referring to an article in Monday, May 7, paper, it said that the temperature reached 92 degrees on Saturday. I don't know where you got that, the temperature never got above 70 on Saturday. I think you picked up a story from earlier. I think the temperature got to 92 on Friday, not Saturday. Check it out."

"Isn't it wonderful, not a single thing about Clinton on the front of the paper for weeks on end. It is just so wonderful, almost as good as this weather."

"Smithsburg neighbors, it is time for us to wake up and let our thoughts be known. What will the police chief ask for next? First he painted the police cars black, now he wants assault rifles. Do we see a bad pattern developing. No police department in the county or in the state carries assault weapons, except for specially trained teams."

"Boy you can tell that deputies are not in Sharpsburg anymore."

"To the person who objected to the music at Grace Brethren Church at the corner of Spruce and First Street. I wish you would come in on a Friday night. It is a wonderful worship service and it was all to lift up the Lord. The music was beautiful and in great taste and respect to God. The songs were so pretty and I just don't see how anyone would object to that. The people who played the instruments are very talented and love God very much. The young minister there is exceptional and loves everyone who attends this church. You can tell he lives for God. His prayers and readings are beautiful. He tells it like it is and if it steps on our toes, that only tells us what areas we need to work on. There is also so much talent and love for God for those who sing. There is no way that you can classify this as a night club. It is more like an evening with God. When it starts again in September please come in one evening and see if it lifts your spirit."

"I am calling about the stop lights on Salem Avenue. Do you realize that it takes 10 minutes to get from Interstate 81 right at the top of Salem Avenue to the top of Potomac Street at the YMCA because the lights are not all working together. It is ridiculous, with the price of the gas these days, we should get the lights to work together.

"We love watching Channel 9 News, especially in the morning. The morning news crew during the week acts like they know what they are doing."

"I understand that prices go up, but it seems like in the past few years, prices are going up so quickly. What do the people who want these things to go up, expect us to get the money. It is a shame because when I was a child, it doesn't seem that they were too expensive."

"For our friends Judy and Lloyd. God sent a special son for you to care for and what a wonderful care you gave him. Well done, good and faithful servants. Your friend."

"When they sprayed for gypsy moths down here along Old South Mountain, down in Boonsboro, I wish they would have come a little closer because we really have them bad down here in the valley, Appletown, Netz Road, Md. 67. I mean the trees are really terrible, so we would like to have a little bit of that, too."

"I live at Potomac Towers and I want to say thank you to the County Commuter people, the Shoppers Special bus, a special thank you to their courteous drivers and helpful drivers."
