LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Dan Trumble showed signs of busting out of his early-season slump. The Hagerstown Suns showed no signs of letting down against the Lakewood BlueClaws.

Trumble walked and scored in the second and hit a solo homer for insurance in the ninth inning as the Suns won 3-1, their fourth victory in five chances against the first-year BlueClaws this season.

In the second, Trumble walked, stole second and came home on Tomas Garrido's single to center with two outs. Lakewood tied the game in the third on Juan Richardson's double, but Derrick Lankford was thrown out at home trying for the lead.

Hagerstown (18-17) got the lead in the eighth. Jose Cerda led off with a single and Jason Ellison's sacrifice bunt put pinch-runner Elliot Strankman at second. He scored when pitcher Rob Tejada threw Bryan Gann's swinging bunt into the stands.

Joe Smith picked up his third win in relief, allowing two hits in three innings while striking out four. Jackson Markert got his seventh save.
