ODESSA, Texas - Despite a hamstring injury to sprinter Kevin Merrick, Hagerstown Community College finished fifth in the men's 4x100-meter relay Saturday at the NJCAA Division I Championships, the Hawks' highest finish ever.

North Hagerstown graduate John McKinley, usually a middle distance runner, replaced Merrick in the second leg as the team clocked 42.95 seconds. McKinley later placed 22nd in the 400 in 1 minute, 56.11 seconds.

Chris Pereschuk, another Hubs alum, finished 16th in the 3,000 steeplechase in 10:12.9 as HCC finished 21st in the men's team competition and 22nd on the women's side.
