Roundup - Goode's game good for Railroaders win


WILLIAMSPORT - Kevin Goode hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to back his own six-hit pitching as No. 6 Brunswick beat Williamsport 5-1 Wednesday in the Monocacy Valley Athletic League.

Goode connected on his 27th home run of his career - his second of the season in consecutive games - and drove in 113th run with two hits and three RBI, adding an RBI double in the first. He also struck out seven.

Chris Baugher and Matt Lastner each went 3-for-4 for Brunswick (13-3, 12-2).

Matt Allen was 2-for-3, including a run-scoring double to drive in Williamsport's only run in the sixth. Adam McAllister had two hits. Gary Naile struck out six for the Wildcats (8-9, 6-9).

Williamsport had the bases loaded with two outs in the fourth inning when it trailed 3-1, but failed to score.

BIGLERVILLE, Pa. - Ricky Boward homered and Alex Denkovich pitched five strong innings as Greencastle-Antrim beat Biglerville in a Mid Penn Colonial game.

Denkovich scattered five hits and struck out three to improve his record to 4-0. Brad Fitz struck out four in the final two innings to earn his third save.

Boward, Fitz and Tony Showalter each had two hits for the Blue Devils (15-1, 12-1).

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Chase Brackley homered twice and drove in five runs to lead Mercersburg to a five-inning blowout of Martinsburg.

Brackley hit a two-run homer to cap a four-run first and added a three-run shot in the fifth to end the game.

Winning pitcher Mike Marron led off the game with a home run for the first of his three hits. He retired Martinsburg on 47 pitches, including 40 strikes, and four strikeouts for the Blue Storm (12-4).

Martinsburg (14-6)only managed two third-inning singles.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Shawn Chilcote homered and hit a two-run double in the fourth to break the game open to lead Chambersburg, keeping the Trojans undefeated in the Mid Penn Commonwealth.

Chilcote hit a two-run homer in the first, behind Matt Carr's leadoff shot, to stake the Trojans (12-4, 9-0) to a 3-0 lead.

Lascelles Riley had two hits and drove in a run for Chambersburg while pitcher Chad Braniff struck out eight in a complete-game win.

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Brandon Conway had three hits and four RBI, including a solo homer in the first, as the Cougars gave Brad Webb his sixth victory of the season.

Donell Lee also had three hits and two RBI and Craig Smith had two hits for Jefferson (23-4-1). For Hedgesville (10-13), Josh Runkles had three hits and John Dunham had two hits and three RBI, including a solo homer in the fifth. It was the first home run allowed by the Jefferson pitching staff this season.

On Tuesday, Conway and Sam Walls hit back-to-back doubles in the ninth inning as the Cougars won 9-8 at Berkeley Springs.

Conway, Walls and Smith all had three hits and Walls had two RBI for the Cougars (22-4-1). Webb and Chris Brooks added two hits.

Mike Swink had three hits, while Brian McClintock and Matthew Mason had two hits for the Indians (5-17).

THURMONT, Md. - Pat Calloway had three hits - two of them homers - as the Lions hits four out of the park to avenge an earlier MVAL loss to the Cougars.

Winning pitcher Danny Leatherman and Robbie Brunner also homered for Walkersville (14-4, 13-3), which got two hits from Brunner, Derek Krantz and Robbie Dodd. Kevin Favorite hit his fifth homer of the season for Catoctin (4-11, 4-9), which got a hit from everyone in the starting lineup.
