Mary W. Arnold


HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Mary Williams Arnold, 49, of Keyes Ferry Acres, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at her home.

Born Nov. 8, 1951, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of Carl Elwood Williams of Cumberland, Md. and the late Catherine Bishop Williams.

She was a 1969 graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland. She received her bachelor of science degree from Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W.Va., in 1998.

She had been employed as a secretary in the research industry.

She was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church in Charles Town, W.Va.

She was associated with Wycliffe Bible Translators.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 13 years, Thomas Neal Arnold; two daughters, Beth Monique Eckard of Bedford, Pa. and Laryn M. Pratt of Walkersville, Md.; a son, Travis Edward Robinette of Fort Riley, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Nicki Powers of Virginia; two half brothers, Allen Winebrenner and Gordon Winebrenner, both of Cumberland; two grandchildren; and a step-grandchild.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Oakland United Methodist Church, 26 Oakland Terrace in Charles Town. The Revs. Kent Tice and Joanne Alexander will officiate.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakland United Methodist Church.

Additional services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Livingstone Church of the Brethren in Cumberland. The Rev. John Hollis will officiate.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Burial Park in Cumberland.

The family also will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Livingstone Church of the Brethren.

Memorial donations may be made to Oakland United Methodist Church, 26 Oakland Terrace, Charles Town, WV 25414; or Union Rescue Mission, Cumberland, MD 21502-1726.

Arrangements are by Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town; and Merritt-Adams Funeral Home in Cumberland.




Charles K. Comer


CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Charles Kendal "Pete" Comer, 77, of Meg Willy Village, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.

Born Nov. 1, 1923, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Emory F. and Rachel Good Comer.

He was a graduate of Brunswick High School.

He was a supervisor for many years at Dixie-Narco Company Inc., Ranson, W.Va.

He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years.

He was a member of Inwood Assembly of God Church in Inwood, W.Va.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mildred L. Painter Comer.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Emory L. Comer, Robert Comer and Norman Comer.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The revs. James Schuelke and Steve Wymer will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Visitaton will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.




Eric G. Cheeks


HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Eric Grant Cheeks, 19, of Keyes Ferry Acres, died Saturday, April 22, 2000. He had been missing for a year; his body was found in Jefferson County, W.Va. on Sunday, April 22, 2001.

Born July 6, 1980, in Olney, Md., he was the son of Roy Eugene Cheeks Sr. and Donna Seaton Cheeks of Harpers Ferry.

He was a 1998 graduate of Jefferson High School.

He was a machine operator for Creative Urethane, Purcellville, Va.

He and his father coached Jefferson County Youth Football.

He played in football, baseball and basketball leagues in Jefferson County.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Marcia Cheeks of Harpers Ferry; a brother, Roy E. Cheeks Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; paternal grandparents, Charles and Beulah Cheeks of Bentonville, Va.; maternal grandmother, Burnice Seaton of Rockville, Md.; aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandfather, Thomas E. Seaton.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Silver Grove United Methodist Church, Silver Grove, W.Va. The Rev. Donnie Jane Cardwell will officiate. Burial will be in Silver Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St., Harpers Ferry.

William L. Faith


WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Services for William Leo Faith, 89, formerly of Warfordsburg, who died Monday, April 30, 2001, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. John Barlow will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Christian Cemetery, Warfordsburg.




Joyce E. Mills


Graveside services for Joyce E. Mills, 76, of 115 N. Jonathan St., Hagerstown, who died Thursday, April 26, 2001, will be Tuesday, May 8, at 1 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. The Revs. Stephen D. Robison and Patricia L. Sebring will officiate.

The family received friends Monday, April 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown.
