Girl struck by van in fair condition

A 7-year-old Hagerstown girl was in fair condition Tuesday evening at Washington County Hospital after being hit by a van in the 100 block of East Franklin Street on Monday, according to a hospital spokesman and Hagerstown City Police.

Police said the girl, who lives on Locust Street, was attempting to cross the street when she darted out in front of a van around 4:30 p.m.

The driver of the van was not cited, police said.

Man held on bond after alleged assault

A 41-year-old Hagerstown man was taken into custody just before midnight Monday after allegedly kicking a woman in the face and holding a knife to her throat in the first block of East Franklin Street.

Eugene Wynn Glover, 41, of Summit Avenue, was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and carrying a concealed weapon, according to Hagerstown City Police.


The victim refused medical treatment, police said.

Glover was taken into custody after the 11:35 p.m. incident. He was being held in lieu of $30,000 bond at Washington County Detention Center.

Taxi driver robbed, assaulted downtown

A Turner Taxi driver was assaulted and robbed early Tuesday in the 100 block of South Prospect Street, Hagerstown City Police said.

Charles Edward King, 38, of Hagerstown, received a cut on his nose during the 12:36 a.m. incident, which occurred as he arrived to pick up a fare who had called Turner's dispatcher for a cab.

The man opened the cab door and struck King, police said. He then reached into King's shirt pocket, grabbed cash and fled the scene on foot with a companion.

The robber was described as a black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 140 pounds, wearing a blue hooded jacket. The other man was also wearing a blue hooded jacket.

The two men ran north on Prospect Street, police said.

Hagerstown police probe incidents

Hagerstown City Police investigated several incidents Tuesday.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> Archery equipment valued at $1,600 was stolen from a truck parked on James Street Tuesday.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> A Ford truck with West Virginia tags, which was stolen from the Home Depot store at the Centre at Hagerstown on April 27, was found at County Market.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> A multi-colored purse and its contents was found on North Cannon Street Tuesday.

Police said the owner's identification was in the purse but could not be reached by phone.

Police have sent the woman a letter saying they had the purse.

Girl hit by vehicle gets bump on head

A 7-year-old girl was hit by a car when she ran into the alley to the rear of 40 E. Franklin St., Tuesday, Hagerstown City Police said.

The girl received a bump on her head and refused treatment at the scene, police said.
