Franklin County Law Day activities slated for Friday

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County Bar Association will hold its annual Law Day activities for area students May 4 at the Franklin County Courthouse in Chambersburg.

The event offers several photo and video opportunities, as well as the chance to interview judges, attorneys and educators about the importance of Law Day.

The events begin at 9:30 a.m. in Courtroom One, where students will sit as jurors in a mock trial presided over by Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge John R. Walker. Attorneys from the bar association will serve as prosecutors, defense attorneys, victims, defendants and witnesses. The students will be asked to deliver a verdict based on the evidence presented.

After the trial, students will take a tour of the courthouse - getting "locked in" the cell in the sheriff's office is always a favorite stop for the students - and see displays and demonstrations by the Chambersburg Police Department and Pennsylvania State Police.

As many as 200 students from throughout the county will take part in this year's event.

Law Day is celebrated nationally May 1.
