Mail Call for 4/27

"I am responding to a Mail Call about the residents in Colonial Park. What does this person think is an unreasonable time? I live in Colonial Park and I hear nothing. Where do you live in Colonial Park? I have lived here for 38 years and I think it is a wonderful place. We have no trouble out here at all. You don't know what you are talking about. You better get your facts straight before you air your dirty laundry in the paper. The lawn mowing and the dogs barking, people have dogs, people mow their grass and the firecrackers, I don't know, I never heard any. Please straighten your story out."

-Hagerstown

"I am a single 34-year-old lady who has worked since I was 15 years old. Last July, I had to file for disability because of uncontrolled seizures. I was awarded $870 a month because of my work credit. The problem I have is paying my bills, groceries, rent, utilities and my medicine, which is $400 a month for 15 pills a day. But yet I cannot get any medical help from any agency because they said I make too much money. I guess I am being punished for working and earning my disability pay and being a productive citizen of this country."

"In response to the lady who called in about the noise in Colonial Park and complaining about her neighbors. All of those complaints seem reasonable except for the lawn mowing. Complaining about someone mowing their lawn, that seems a little childish. How do you expect these people to mow their grass, with a pair of tweezers?"

"I took my son and his friend, who are both 8 years old. We went to two Suns games the past two Saturdays and we had a great time. As far as building a new stadium, there was not that much of a crowd at either one of those games. I can see just remodeling this one or making it better. It is a shame that minor league baseball is not supported better than it is. It is sort of like the Hagerstown Speedway. We need to get more involved because it seems like we don't know what we already have."

"I agree, we should be taught not to kill, but the taxpayers have no right to be paying to keep these killers in prison. The death penalty should be in all of the states. I wonder what you would think if one of these criminals would have killed one of your loved ones? I bet your opinion would be a lot different. This is to the person who didn't believe in the death penalty."

"The most ridiculous story I have ever heard in my life is about a woman who sued McDonald's about a hot pickle falling out of her sandwich and burning her chin and scarring her for life. I never even got a real hot sandwich, let alone a hot pickle."

"I wanted to wish my sister Judy a happy birthday. I love you, Sissy."

"Mary had a little lamb, his fleece was as white as snow, everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go. He followed her to school each day, 'twas even in the rule, he made the children laugh and play, to have a lamb at school. Then the rules all changed one day, illegal it became to bring a lamb of God to school or speak His name. Every day got worse and worse and days turned into years. Instead of hearing children laugh, we heard gunshots and tears. What must we do to stop the crime that is in our schools today? Let's let the lamb come back to school and teach our kids to pray."

"About the yard sale at the Shady Grove Store, give me the earliest date that they can start. I know the food is great."

"For the person looking for the more traditional Catholic Church in the Hagerstown area. St. Mary's on West Washington Street is very traditional."

"In answer to the person who wanted to cook the corn on the cob in the microwave. The time is 3 to 4 minutes for one ear, 6 to 7 minutes for two ears, 9 to 10 for three ears and 11 to 12 for four ears. You leave it in the microwave after cooking it, covered for two minutes. You cover it with plastic wrap when you cook it."

"I am calling about the Mail Call in Tuesday's paper about the homework. You should sit that child down, she doesn't need special attention. My daughter was honor roll all through school, she had two hours of homework in the third and fourth grade every night. She did not sit there and watch TV. She sat at the table and did her work."

"To the person who called about blaming the Democrats for the economy and letting the Republicans do their job and getting the economy the way it should be. You mean like back when we had the depression in the '80s with Reagan and Bush?"

"I have a question, why do contractors tell you on their answering machines that they will call you back as soon as possible, but then never return your call? I have only this to say to them, 'ignore your customers and they will go away.'"

"I would like to welcome Bill and Brenda to Cool Hollow Road in Marlowe, W.Va. I hope you like your new house."
