Willis H. Hoover


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Willis Herbert "Steamer" Hoover, 85, of 452 Ohio Ave., died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born June 15, 1915, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late John I. and Nora Miller Hoover.

His wife, Bertha Grace Eyer Hoover, died in 1978.

He was employed by Dairymaid in Chambersburg, retiring in 1979 after 47 years.

He was a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Chambersburg, the Men's Bible Class, and served as an usher.

He was a member of Chambersburg Club, Cumberland Valley Hose Co. 5, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW and Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion, all in Chambersburg; Eagles Club in Waynesboro, Pa.; and Cumberland Valley Fireman's Association.

He was a former line marker for J. Frank Faust Junior High School and Chambersburg Area Senior High School football teams.

He is survived by two daughters, Emma Lee Higgins of Waxhaw, N.C., and Jean Black of Chambersburg; one son, Willis H. Hoover Jr. of Chambersburg; three sisters, Anna Schellhase of Syracuse, Utah, and Virginia Seilhamer and Betty Mull, both of Chambersburg; one brother, Paul Hoover of Gettysburg, Pa.; one granddaughter; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, 125 Park Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Robert E. Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends at the church at 1 p.m.

Sarah E. Branche


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Sarah E. Branche, 56, of 26 W. Queen St., died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Washington County Hospital.

Born July 3, 1944, in McConnellsburg, she was the daughter of Alice H. Spriggs Branche of McConnellsburg and the late Ted W. Branche.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Chambersburg, Pa.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Sherry Martinez of Culpepper, Va. and Alista Branche of Chambersburg; five sons, Randy Branche and Daryl Branche, both of Chambersburg, Gregory Branche and Sean Branche, both of Harrisburg, Pa. and Sterling Branche of Hagerstown; five sisters, Geraldine Davis and Juanita Branche, both of McConnellsburg, Delores Scates and Patsy Branche-Dinkins, both of Harrisburg and Peggy McWhite of Fredericksburg, Va.; a brother, Harold Branche of Lancaster, Pa.; and 19 grandchildren.

She was preceded death by a brother, Walter Branche.

Services will be Monday at noon at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Chambersburg. The Rev. Nathan Bell will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in McConnellsburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 725 Norland Ave. in Chambersburg; and Monday at 11 a.m. at the church. The funeral home will open Sunday at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 119 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.




Loren H. Reeder


McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Loren Harry Reeder, 35, of 20321 Great Cove Road, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at his home.

Born Oct. 12, 1965, in McConnellsburg, he was the son of C. Harry and Naomi Wildoner Reeder.

He was a laborer for JLG Equipment Services.

He was a member of McConnellsburg United Methodist Church.

He was a member of McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co.; McConnellsburg Fire Police; and Sons of the American Legion Post 561.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Ashley Marie Martz of Hustontown, Pa.; two sisters, Lisa N. Daniels of Cape Carteret, N.C. and Lenda R. Reeder of McConnellsburg; and a brother, Lynn C. Reeder of McConnellsburg.

Services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St. in McConnellsburg. The Rev. Donald Bard will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in McConnellsburg.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Sunday at noon at the funeral home. The funeral home will open Saturday at 2 p.m.




Joyce E. Mills


Joyce E. Mills, 76, of 115 N. Jonathan St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Ravenwood Nursing Home.

Born May 28, 1924, in Cologne, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Charles William and Olive King Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Mills, in 1981.

She retired from Dr. Joseph Secondari's office in Boonsboro; and had worked for Dr. Greenthumb.

She served with the Junior Red Cross in Belfast, Ireland, from 1936 through 1937. She served with the Women's Royal Air Force during World War II.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She was a former member of AARP; and Cosmopolitan Club.
