Mail Call for 4/24

"I am calling about the lady who was talking about the children on Franklin Street. I see a lot of children out in the Hagerstown area and I would also like to know where the parents are. These parents these days have no responsibility at all. I just saw a 3-year-old out last Friday by himself. Parents, be more responsible with your children and forget the rest of your life."

"Eastern Boulevard was supposed to be a freeway around the county. A 40 mile per hour freeway. Well it looks we are now down to a 15 to 20 miles per hour. They are now putting stop lights at every corner. Some freeway."

"To the Washington County Commissioners: Beware, the taxpayers are watching you. You are spending money like it is growing on the trees. Like that money belongs to you. Remember, you don't have a penny. The money in the bank or whereever it is, belongs to the Washington County taxpayers. Beware, we are watching you and we will take care of it at the next election."

"Do you remember the piggy- back tax? The piggyback tax had a limit of how high they could go. The limit was 50 percent of what ever your state tax is. If the piggy- back tax is not called piggyback anymore, it is called a county income tax. The name has been changed because there is no limit on the amount they can charge you because it is not a piggyback tax anymore."

"The Washington County Commissioners are always talking about getting bond money. Where do you think this bond money comes from? That bond money is the taxpayers' money. We pay the bills and we pay the interest on the bonds. We are tired of it. The County Commissioners need to live within their means. No borrowing. They need to get this county completely out of debt. They need to get on a pay as you go basis. Look at the money they save and the interest they are paying, alone. They could lower our property taxes and our county income taxes back down to what it was several years ago. They need to get on the stick and do this thing right."

"In reference to the lady who said about her child having two hours worth of homework in the third grade. I don't know what school your child goes to, but, I have a daughter in the third grade. She has about a half hour of homework, at the most. Obviously your child does need home-schooled because she or he needs special attention. Also, everyone is blaming the Bush and Cheney administration for the economy. Look again, remember back, The Clinton administration is to blame for that and they are Democrats. So let off of the Republicans and let them do their job and get this economy the way it should be."

"Well, Mr. Bush, we had the talks with China, which lasted about a day and a half. Where is our spy plane? Did you really think that they were going to hand it over? I wish they would. But I guarantee you if Bill Clinton was still president, we wouldn't even have this escapade."

"I think Boonsboro High School should concentrate more on educating their students rather than worrying about their students being three minutes late for lunch. Education is more important than teaching them about being late for lunch. Many parents think that this is ridiculous and the administration needs to know that they are stepping out of their boundaries. Also, when you pick on one student for being late and the rest of them walk by and you don't say anything. You need to re-establish what you are trying to say to that one student."

"I want to know if there is anyone that has a 1951 female high school ring or know where I can locate one. Please call Mail Call."

"I am new to the Hagerstown area. I was wondering if someone could tell me which one of the Catholic churches in this area would be more of the older traditional Catholic than the more modern?"

"Who sets the scale when a school student has homework to do at home? Two and a half or maybe three hours of homework seems like a lot of time for someone who watches TV at the same time. The amount of homework is indirect proportion to how much quality time is spent on it. The time spent doing homework is because of other distractions."

"I am calling all the residents in Colonial Park in Hagerstown. Please have respect for your neighbors. Dogs barking, lawn mowers running, people screaming, firecrackers. All of these things are going on in our neighborhood. There is a noise ordinance that should be followed. Please respect and not do these things at unreasonable times."

"To Devon, the little 5-year-old boy who made the Easter eggs for the patients at Washington County Hospital. Thank you, they were very nice and it was very special that you thought about our patients at Easter. Thank you."
