City Council candidate

Kristin B. Aleshire

  • Age: 25
  • Address: 745 Guilford Ave.
  • Party: Democrat
  • Occupation: Planner for the towns of Middletown and Myersville in Frederick County, Md.

On the Issues:

- Says his work experience would make him a better council member, because he is familiar with the workings of municipal governments.

- Supports a city subsidy for Community Rescue Service.

- Opposes city funding for a new minor league baseball stadium, but favors making some improvements to the city's Municipal Stadium.

- Supports a $4.4 million proposal to demolish several buildings around a planned downtown state university center to make room for additional parking and open space.

- Supports a proposed $10.2 million Visual and Performing Arts Center, which would encompass the Maryland Theatre and adjacent buildings.

- Supports allowing landlords, who own property in the city but who do not live in the city, to vote in city elections.

- Promises to give away his $8,000 a year council salary, probably to college scholarships for city residents.

"I just think that I have the necessary intelligence to do the best job."

Tomorrow: Victoria K. Bodnar
