BOONSBORO - Williamsport's softball team waited for an opportunity, then pounced on it when it came.

Leading 3-2 through five innings, the Wildcats scored nine runs in the final two innings to break the game open and defeat the Boonsboro 12-4 on Thursday in a Monocacy Valley Athletic League softball game.

The Warriors committed seven of their 10 errors in the final two innings.

"We are starting to put the ball in play a lot more," Williamsport coach Tom Dzur said. "We are learning how to take advantage of the opportunities that we have on the basepaths."

"Williamsport's two big innings were the results of our poor defense and their aggressive baserunning," Boonsboro coach Steve Lemonakis said.

"You don't win a game with ten errors. It's really that simple. We're better than that. Our errors came on simple plays."

Kristine Porac reached base for Williamsport (3-7, 2-6) three times on infield singles, two on bunts. Amber Taylor and Holly Bowers added two hits each for the Wildcats. Taylor had three RBI, Becky Pulieri scored three runs and Sarah Hardin scored two runs for Williamsport.

Pitcher Denise Sullivan went the distance for the win, giving up only one walk and two earned runs, while striking out eight.

"Denise Sullivan pitched a nice game," Dzur added. "Her control was excellent. She had them hitting the ball on the ground for the most part."

Boonsboro pitcher Ashley Gray allowed just one walk and three earned runs in seven innings, while going 4-for-4 and scoring twice.

Shannon Davis had two hits and Ashley Hagemen hit a two-run double for Boonsboro (2-8, 2-6).
