South Hagerstown High School senior Danny Fowler has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Md.

"Very pleased," Mount St. Mary's baseball coach Scott Thompson said Wednesday

when announcing Fowler's decision. "We offered him an athletic scholarship and we received the letter of intent (Wednesday)."

Thompson first noticed Fowler last fall.

"He caught my eye when he was a member of the Maryland Select Showcase team last September," Thompson said. "I like his glove and arm strength, he has good baseball instincts. He's a good contact hitter and I look for him to bat No. 2 in the order and play middle infield, probably second base."

The 17-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Fowler of Hagerstown said he selected Mount St. Mary's over Salisbury State, Westchester (Pa.), Catholic University (Washington, D.C.) and Methodist (North Carolina).

"I liked Mount St. Mary's after my official visit and liked the academic program that was available, I'll be majoring in mathematics," Fowler said.

Mount St. Mary's is a member of the Northeast Conference.
