County backs reserved parking slots for seniors

The Washington County Commissioners Tuesday issued a proclamation endorsing the Privileged Parking for Senior Citizens Program.

The program is intended to reserve parking spaces close to commercial and real estate locations for people aged 60 and older.

The program was founded by Williamsport Retirement Village about six years ago and is supported by the Washington County Commission on Aging.

Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook presented a written proclamation to representatives of the Retirement Village and the Commission on Aging.

Two groups included for potential county funding

Following a public hearing Tuesday, the Washington County Commissioners added two groups to the list of nonprofit organizations eligible for funding through the annual budget process.

The two requesting addition to the list were Character Counts! and the Antietam Commemoration Committee Inc., which is planning a re-enactment on the 140th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam for September 2002.

Inclusion on the list does not guarantee funding will be provided, Commissioners President Gregory I. Snook said.

The only people speaking at the public hearing were representatives of the two groups.
