Man accused of theft gives purse back to woman


Hagerstown City Police got the tag number of a man suspected of trying to steal a woman's purse Monday afternoon.

The woman told police the man grabbed her purse from her shopping cart at Martin's on Wesel Boulevard at about 3:30 p.m.

When she chased him down and confronted him, he gave the purse back and left the store, police said.

The man drove away in a maroon Buick Skylark with Pennsylvania tags DXE 6156. He was described as a white male, 6 feet tall and wearing a green Nike sweatshirt, police said.

Armed man holds up motel in downtown Hagerstown


A man armed with two handguns held up the clerk at the Holiday Motel Monday morning, escaping with a small amount of cash, Hagerstown City Police said.

The clerk told police the robber was wearing a gray sweatshirt, light blue sweat pants and a red bandana when he entered the motel office at 16 N. Prospect St. at 3:18 a.m.

He was described as white, about 6 feet tall, 150 pounds and about 30 years old, police said.

No shots were fired and no one was injured, police said.

Pa. man faces charges after hitting parked car


CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was charged with multiple offenses after an accident involving a parked car Friday morning, Chambersburg Police said.

Charles R. Kasar Jr., of 373 Lincoln Way East, was charged with driving under the influence, fleeing the scene of an accident and possession of a small amount of marijuana, police said.

Police alleged that Kasar's vehicle struck an unattended parked car at 12:22 a.m. at North Franklin and High streets.

He fled on foot and witnesses followed him and held him until police arrived, police said.

Deputies probe theft, break-in of vehicles


Washington County Sheriff's deputies were investigating the theft of a vehicle from 13718 Village Mill Drive in Maugansville Monday morning when they learned it had been recovered in a Franklin County, Pa., creek.

No one was in the car that was found in the water along Weaver Road East at 5:42 a.m.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> Also reported this morning was a break-in of another vehicle at 13824 Village Mill Drive. A purse was taken, deputies said.

Hagerstown City Police investigate incidents


Over the weekend, Hagerstown City Police were called about the theft of tools from a vehicle parked in the first block of Belview Avenue.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> An attempted breaking and entering at 30 E. Antietam St., second floor, was also reported on Sunday. While the apartment door was damaged, no entry was gained, police said.

HEIGHT="6" ALT="* "> Also on Sunday, a diaper bag was taken from a car on Security Road, police said.

Diesel fuel stolen from Greene Township business


FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - About 2,500 gallons of fuel was stolen from a Greene Township business last month, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Someone removed the diesel fuel, worth about $3,250, from Fayetteville Contractors at 489 Woodstock Road between March 1 and March 31, police said.
