Hagerstown (5-6) held a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning, but the pitching faltered. Delmarva (8-3) sent 10 men to the plate in a five-run outburst as losing pitcher Chris Jones (0-1) walked the the first three Shorebirds he faced. Jones allowed a single to the next batter cutting the lead to 2-1 and Hagerstown changed pitchers bringing in Jeremy Cunningham.
Cunningham got a pop out to shortstop Thomas Garrido, who made the over-the-shoulder catch running away from the infield, and a fielder's choice, which tied the game at 2-2 but Nick Garcia singled driving home two more runs and a 4-2 lead.
Hagerstown never recovered. The Suns took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Mark Walker homered and catcher Trey Lunsford made a heads-up, base-running play. With Jason Ellison up and Lunsford on second base, Ellison hit an infield single to shortstop. Lunsford never stopped running and, when Ellison beat the play at first base, Lunsford was able to score for the 2-0 lead.
