Man dies when car plunges into creek

SLEEPY CREEK, W.Va. - A man was killed Saturday night when he missed the entrance to a one-lane bridge and drove his car into a Morgan County, W.Va., creek, according to fire officials Sunday.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. as the man missed the entrance to the bridge on River Road and drove his car into Sleepy Creek, just before the point it flows into the Potomac River, said Allen Truax, assistant chief of the Berkeley Springs (W.Va.) Volunteer Fire Department Co. No. 1.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office and the West Virginia State Police also responded to the scene of the accident and attempted to remove the driver from the car, Truax said.

The man was pronounced dead at War Memorial Hospital.

His name was not available Sunday.
