Saturday roundup - Keyes locks up Musselman's bats


ST. JAMES - Billy Keyes threw a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts while walking only two to lead St. James to its first win of the season, 8-0 over Musselman on Saturday.

"I told him, 'See what happens when you throw strikes?'" said St. James coach Mick Kerns. "He pitched to his capabilities today."

Ryan Wingerd went 3-for-4, while Sid Huguenin and Parker Turner each had two hits and two RBI for the Saints (1-5).

IJAMSVILLE, Md. - Wayne Toms, Matt Lastner, Chris Baugher and Joe Secoges all had two hits and Danny Baugher threw 3 2/3 innings on no-hit, no-run relief, but Brunswick (5-2) fell to Urbana in a Frederick County Tournament semifinal.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Greg Weber went 3-for-3 with two RBI, while Zach Glover and Brett Twigg each had two hits as Martinsburg beat Musselman for the third time in 10 days.

Brandon Combs went 3-for-3 for the Applemen (7-6-1).

The Bulldogs (10-2) beat Berkeley Springs 11-4 on Friday night.

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - In Game 1, Sam Walls struck out seven in a three-hitter and Ryan Lipscomb had three hits and three RBI, including a two-run homer to lead the Cougars' home sweep.

Brandon Conway, Antyon Lee and Justin Dailey also had RBI hits in the first game for Jefferson (14-3). In Game 2, Lipscomb had two more hits and two more RBI and Walls had two hits and three RBI. Chris Brooks stole three bases and Derek Boyd also drove in two runs in the second game.

HANCOCK - Gary Naile fired a five-hitter with 14 strikeouts to help Williamsport beat Hancock in the H. Lynn Kerns Easter Tournament.

Eric Fitzgerald, Matt Allen, Chris Chaney and Steven Miles collected two hits apiece for Williamsport. Fitzgerald and Miles each hit a three-run homer.

HANCOCK - Jeremy Frazee hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to enable Northern Garrett (3-5) to squeeze by Hancock. Frazee finished with three hits, while Trey Brenneman had two hits for Northern Garrett.

Chris Dobrzanski hit a three-run homer for Hancock (3-4). Ricky Snow and Danny Keefer added two hits each for Hancock.

FREDERICK, Md. - Freshman Nick Adenhart threw a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts lead St. Maria Goretti over St. John's at Prospect Hall in at the SJPH Easter Classic at Harry Grove Stadium.

Josh Carter went 2-for-3 for St. Maria Goretti (3-4, 2-1 Potomac Baseball Association), while Mason Herman had a two-run double.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Freshman Dirk Webb earned his first win with a one-hit shutout in the first game as Hedgesville swept two from St. Albans.

Webb walked one and struck out 10 for the Eagles (5-5). Mike Fiorita had two hits, while G.W. Kilmer added an RBI single.

Nicky Brown's infield single in the seventh inning scored Trey Hockman to give Hedgesville the sweep.
