Mail Call for 3/8

Editor's note - Please be as brief as possible when calling Mail Call, The Daily Mail's reader call-in line.

Mail Call is not staffed on weekends or holidays so it is best to call Mail Call during the week. The Mail Call number is 301-791-6236.

You are welcome to leave a recorded message on any subject, but some calls will be screened out.

Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Thank you, Antietam Cable, for carrying the Fox News Channel on your lineup."

"I want to say that I read with interest the article about Mr. Bartlett applying for a position in Tennessee. It is obvious that it is past time for Dr. Bartlett to be removed as superintendent of Washington County. It is time the citizens of Washington County, especially the parents of the school-aged children, demand his immediate dismissal. It is time the elected board get off the fence and start the wheels in motion and get this man removed."

"I am calling in response to the people waiting for things. I can see where these people are coming from when they complain about waiting outside in the cold. I don't think it is too much to ask for. Not everyone who is needy takes advantage of things. You shouldn't blame one bad apple for the entire bunch. Let them go inside and wait. It is not the idea of waiting, it is the idea of standing out in the cold. You are already sick and don't need to be out in the cold waiting."

"I wanted to say to the person who saw the two robins on Oriole Drive, that is not good, but if you had seen them on Yankee Drive, that would have been fine."

"I thought you weren't supposed to smoke in the mall. Every day that I am out there, I look into the restaurants and I see the managers smoking in the restaurant. I don't think it is fair that the customers can't smoke and the employees can."

"A gold star goes to John Dagenhart of Auto Parts of Hagerstown in South End Shopping Center. A delightful young man that gave me individual attention. I do hope that the store is aware of his outstanding business ability."

- Hagerstown

"Someone had a question in Mail Call about how many junk cars you can have in your yard legally. I don't know about Maryland, but in West Virginia, you can have as many as you want. I used to live over there and we had plenty of freedom over there. We pretty much did whatever we wanted to do over there."

"In regards to the person who lost their job because of their supervisor yelling. That should not be allowed at work. There is a right way and a wrong way to talk to someone at work. They should not get away with it. I think they should start doing something to stop this from happening. He is not a very good supervisor."

"I want to congratulate NTF for the drug bust of a drug dealer. That is one down and more to go."

- Hagerstown

"As a taxpayer in Washington County, can someone tell me why we have to have a PR person for the school board? My property taxes keep going up, the education department keeps raising the budgets and we just keep paying more and more. What for?"

"I want to put in about the shooting at the school in California. Why didn't the school counselors counsel him?"

"I am calling in regards to the school shooting. I think this is very shameful that this kind of thing keeps happening. It's a shame that you are afraid to go to school, because we don't know what is going to happen. I also think that people need to stop picking on other people who are different because this is why this kind of thing keeps happening."

"To the woman who saw 47 robins in Keedysville and only two in Funkstown. What is happening is that the robins are messing with your mind."

"Can someone explain to me why there was a two-hour delay in the schools on Wednesday? It is no wonder these kids' grades are dropping. Maybe it is because the kids aren't in school."
